On the last day of term, the Year 0/1 classes had a spring barbecue. Luckily the sun was shining because it had been raining all week.
As part of our literacy programme, A4 has published the stories they have written by recording them onto video. We have also recorded some of our language experiences. We hope you enjoy viewing them as much as we enjoyed making them.

Duffy Theatre!
On Friday we had more special visitors! The Duffy Theatre Company came to our school to put on a show.
A4 thought the show was hilarious and some of us wanted to write stories about the show when we got back to the classroom. Here is a video of Hayden, Makaveli, Sharon, Hayzel and Loveday sharing their stories.

Duffy Hero Assembly
On Thursday, an author named Mr Mac came to our school. He came to talk to us about a book he has written called Doug the Digger. Mr Mac explained how he used to operate heavy machines but after his arm was crushed between a building and a truck, he had to find a new career.
To welcome Mr Mac to Papatoetoe East School, our kapahaka group performed for the first time this year! They were very nervous.
We sang the Duffy song for Mr Mac and he danced with Mrs Compston and Areyanna!

Rabbit's Castle
Sharon loves writing stories and she is getting very good at finding the words she needs on her wordcard! She is now able to write two ideas in a story. Well done Sharon!
Welcome Back Stu!
On Friday, Stu arrived back to A4 from his holiday in A1. A1 must have kept him busy because he was very tired. We picked lots of cabbage from our garden and fed it to him. To see more photos, go to our pets page.

Our thoughts on the squid
Mihi, Ayush and Hemakshi were not afraid to touch the squid while it was being dissected. Ayush thought the squid's tentacle looked like a boa constrictor! Here they are talking about their experience.

Squidward Leaves Bikini Bottom!
As part of our Under the Sea study, A3 and A4 got to see a real squid. The children were scared to touch it at first. Here is a video of the children touching the squid.
Later in the day, we dissected the squid to look at its body parts.
This is the squid's beak inside its mouth. The beak is for biting food into small pieces.
We cut off the squid's fins. Squids use their fins for swimming.
This is Ayush holding a tentacle. Squids have 2 large feeding tentacles and 8 shorter tentacles (arms).
This is one of the squid's teeth. The teeth are found at the ends of the two large feeding tentacles.
Look at the squid's eye. A squid has two very large eyes.

Good Morning City
This term we have been learning about the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser and we have created art based on Hundertwasser's painting Good Morning City. It took us two weeks to complete. Here is a video of the art process.
Check out the final product! The art looks great. It looks even better in the classroom so if you would like to take a closer look, come down to A4! A big thank you to Rachel (Loveday's Mum - who is an art teacher) for your great ideas and input.
